August 2018: Home Office advisor Gary Hodgkiss was spared prison after he turned up to meet what he believed was a 12-year-old girl, following online sexual grooming. Also, caught with several hundred indecent images and movies of children featuring infants and toddlers being orally raped or tortured.

March 2013: In the case of choirmaster Michael Brewer and his wife Kay, Bernadette Baxter was part of the defence team of the accused. The defence told the victim: “It’s utter fantasy, isn’t it?” and “You’ve told this jury a complete pack of lies. You are a fantasist”.
Baxter and her team continued to aggressively question the victim in heated exchanges. She went on to tell the victim that her version of events ‘can’t be right’ – A week later the victim took her own life before the jury reached its guilty verdicts. Brewer & his wife were jailed for six years
March 2017:Lucy Howarth avoided jail after breaking a 3 month old baby’s arm in a fit of rage. Howarth then failed to report his injuries for 2 days
Howarth was convicted of child cruelty but avoided prison with a suspended sentence. Judge Bernadette Baxter also spared her of unpaid work
May 2017: Student engineer from Oldham William Hastings made images classed in the worst category A bracket, showing children as young as four years old being tortured or raped. He used search engines to look for pictures of both young girls and boys engaged in various kinds of sexual activity.
Judge Bernadette Baxter said she felt able to give Hastings a suspended sentence
March 2018: Judge Bernadette Baxter handed 85-year-old devout church-goer Kenneth Hardacre a suspended sentence after he sexually assaulted two girls aged 13 & 14
Judge Bernadette Baxter told him: “You are an abusive bully. The girls were in their early teens.”
She said: “This does cross the custody threshold but because of your prompt guilty plea, this will be suspended.”
January 2017: ‘Deviant’ chef Christian Abu-Schaer exposed himself to an eight-year-old girl whilst masterbating and he also sexually assaulted a female flight attendant
At the time of this offence, the Spanish national was already on police bail for a similar offence

April 2018: Manchester minicab driver Syed Al-Zia was spared prison by Judge Bernadette Baxter.
He sexually assaulted his first victim when she took a ride in his minicab last year. The following night he then grabbed hold of a frightened teenage girl who also took a ride in his minicab.
Al-Zia locked the doors and began to call her cute and asking if she had a boyfriend. He asked how old she was and when she told him, he replied by say he thought she looked ’15’.
Al-Zia then sexually assaulted her and demanded she give him her mobile number before he would let her exit the vehicle.
September 2017: Britain’s most prolific female criminal Jeanette Fidler, who had clocked up 218 convictions since 2000, was given a suspended sentence by Judge Bernadette Baxter.
The serial thief was previously banned from all UK leisure centres, gyms or hotels under the terms of a Criminal Behaviour Order. She re-offended yet still walked free
June 2015: A drunken thug whose punch left a father with 3 kids in a coma for two weeks and with brain damage was handed just a 14 month prison sentence by Judge Bernadette Baxter.
The victim needed 46 hospital appointments since the attack. When the victim eventually woke up from the coma, he had forgotten he even had a baby girl.

Timothy JONES (March 2008 and March 2009 Mold Crown Court). Bernadette Baxter was instructed to defend a police officer charged with rape and sexual assault in two separate trials. Found not guilty
May 2005: Was the defence for two off-duty North Wales Police officers who beat up a party goer so badly that other guests thought he was dead. Sgt Stephen Tierney and Pc Jonathan Tym, from Wrexham, were ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service
October 2004: A woman who claimed £13,800 in benefits after joining Greater Manchester Police has been convicted of deception. Rachel White continued to claim the benefits despite starting her new job as a police officer. Defended by Bernadette Baxter
