Pervert put spy camera in Derbyshire home to watch young couple having sex

A pervert placed spy camera in the bedroom of a Derbyshire home so he could watch a young couple having sex.

Richard Smith also admitted he had been downloading and viewing sick child abuse footage for more than 15 years when police seized his computers.

The 53-year-old had images of children as young as three being abused and admitted he looked at them for his own sexual gratification.

However, he has been spared an immediate prison term as he is seeking help from a specialist organisation that works to rehabilitate sex offenders.

Jailing Smith for 10 months, suspended for two years, at Derby Crown Court Judge Shaun Smith said: “You were making images of them (the young couple) while they were doing things they should be able to enjoy in private.

“And for a long period of time you have been looking at indecent images of young children.

“There might not appear to you to be any victims when you view these images on your computer.

“But they are victims and while people keep looking at the pictures they will remain victims.”

Eunice Opare-Addo, prosecuting, said police went to an address linked to Smith on January 31, 2018, after his internet protocol (IP) address was linked to downloading sick child abuse images.

She said two laptops, a mobile phone and three other electronic items were found under his bed and were seized and analysed.

A total of 120 images were found on them including 47 of the most serious category A which typically shows young children engaged in sexual activity with adults.

Miss Opare-Addo said: “Analysis showed that the images were being downloaded from 2003 and there were also internet searches for terms such as ‘pre-teen hardcore’.

“Also on there were four videos which showed he had set up a hidden camera which showed a young couple having sex.”

Smith, of Silkstone Road, Sheffield, was arrested and in interview admitted he had been looking at the images and videos for his own sexual gratification.

As well as the suspended prison sentence, Smith was ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.

He must also attend 60 rehabilitation activity requirement sessions with the probation service.

Smith was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and was handed a sexual harm prevention order.
