Man had sex with girl aged 13

A 21-year man has admitted having sex with a 13-year-old

Luke Lord of Cottington Close, Freshbrook, was arrested in September after having sex with the girl in July.

He owned up straight away to the police and later pleaded guilty in court.

At Swindon Magistrates’ Court defence lawyer Mike Pulsford described Lord as “immature and nave in his attitudes and beliefs.”

But he claimed the 21-year-old had been under “tremendous pressure” from the 13-year-old and her friends, to have sex with her.

Lord had met the girl three weeks earlier when she asked him to buy alcohol for her from a shop.

On the day the crime was committed she and a friend visited him at his home.

Later the three of them left to go to another friend’s house nearby where they all drank spirits. Mr Pulsford said: “My client drank some whisky and that in some way clouded his judgement.

“The 13-year-old was quite streetwise and had a liking for spirits.

“It became clear that she fancied him.”

The pair then left with the girl’s friend and went back to Lord’s house where his mother was asleep upstairs.

The girl’s friend went to sleep and Lord and the 13-year-old kissed on the sofa.

They then went upstairs to Lord’s bedroom where the girl produced a condom and they had “consensual sex.”

Mr Purlsford said: “We are not talking about a young man who had set out to pull a girl.

“He had been approached and matters took their course.

“He owned up straight away and he should receive credit for that. He is a young man who has been nave but who is nevertheless a hardworking young man who has knuckled down to a good work ethic.”

Lord was put on the sex offender’s register and was sentenced to a three-year community rehabilitation order.

He was also ordered to pay £138 in costs.

Chairwoman of the Bench, Eileen Charles, said: “The victim was under 16 and she had been drinking.

“There was a disparity between your ages you were 21 and you were drunk.

“All this makes it more serious.
