Rapist jailed for attacks on terrified girls in Fife

A sex attacker who raped two young girls has been jailed for 11 years.

William Brown preyed on his terrified victims in a reign of abuse between 1982 and 2004. The crimes, which the 61 year-old denied, occurred at different locations in Fife.

As Brown was locked up at the High Court in Glasgow police praised his victims for their bravery in ensuring justice was served.

Brown had previously been found guilty after a trial in Edinburgh of four charges including rape and lewd and libidinous behaviour.

Lord Kinclaven said Brown had been convicted of crimes against “vulnerable young females”.

Brown, of Buckhaven, was also put on the sex offenders list.

The imprisonment of a man regarded as a “serious risk” to young females was welcomed by reporting officer, DC Catriona Maton, of Fife’s divisional rape investigation unit.

She said: “I would like to thank the victims in this case for their courage and bravery in reporting the matter to police, and for their continued engagement at trial.

“We will not tolerate sexual abuse and encourage anyone to report such crimes so that we can investigate them thoroughly, including crimes of a non recent or historic nature.

“Despite the passing of time, these crimes can still lead to convictions.”
