Peterborough man who sexually assaulted young girl is jailed
A man who worked at HMP Peterborough until January 2018 and who got a 14-year-old girl pregnant has been jailed.
Jake Wharton, 25, had sex with the girl on a regular basis at his home and in his car, as well as taking photos of her in “a state of undress”.
The girl, who has since given birth, said she knows she will have to explain to her child “what [the] dad has done”, Cambridge Crown Court was told.
Wharton of Northam Close, Eye, near Peterborough, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court today, Tuesday March 12, for three counts of engaging in penetrate sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.
Wharton befriended the underage girl before grooming her for sex, taking her to a remote location in his car and to his home to abuse her.
The grooming was reported to the police and Wharton was brought in for questioning by officers.
He initially denied the allegations but, after being informed that officers could review deleted images and messages on his mobile phone, he confessed to sexually assaulting the girl on several occasions.
Wharton was jailed for four years and eight months for each count, to run concurrently.
A restraining order on him preventing contact with the girl and the child, and a sexual harm prevention order were also imposed.
