Drug crazed man viciously attacked baby

A man who caused ‘nasty’ injuries to a 19 month old baby has been sentenced to two years

Paul Ripley may have assaulted the child because of resentment towards the babys father, Sheffield Crown Court heard

Judge Peter Baker QC told Paul Ripley, 28 of Herringthorpe: “You inflicted a series of unpleasant injuries”

“It is fortunate for the child that these injuries, although nasty and extremely painful at the time, seem unlikely to cause any physical disability”

“It was a appalling attack on a defenceless baby”

The court heard that he baby – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was left alone with Ripley for 15 – 20 minutes while the childs mother, a friend, went to get a takeaway meal at around 11pm

When the babys mother returned, the bay was crying, but Ripley told her he had not heard anything.

The baby who was very upset, was taken to hospital with swollen eyes and bruises

Doctors discovered injuries consistent with, blows to the head with a hand or fist and a adult bite mark on the child’s shin
