Man made teen pregnant

A 15-year-old Derby schoolgirl has given birth to a baby son, having been made pregnant by a 27-year-old man who knew having sex with her was against the law.

Derby Crown Court heard how Dafallah Alghora made the teen pregnant when they had consensual intercourse in 2018.

The hearing was told how he was later told by the girl’s mother that she was only 15. The victim had initially told the defendant she was 16.

Derbyshire police became aware of what had happened and arrested Alghora, on Pear Tree Road.

Laura Pitman, prosecuting, said: “He was interviewed in May last year and admitted he’d had sex with the girl but that she had told him she was 16.

“He stated that in his home country of Sudan it is common for men to marry and have sexual intercourse with girls as young as 13.

“But when he was challenged he admitted that he knew the age of consent in the UK was 16.

“In December of last year she then gave birth to their son.”

Alghora pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child.

Jailing Alghora for 15 months, Judge Shaun Smith QC said he was dealing with “an unusual case”.

As well as the jail term, Judge Smith handed Alghora a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and ordered him to sign the sex offender’s register for 10 years.

He said any decision on whether to deport him back to Sudan would be down to the Home Office.
