Paedophile jailed for child sexual abuse
A 56-year-old Rotherham maths teacher has been sentenced to six years in prison and will be on the sex offenders register for life after admitting multiple child sexual offences against a young boy
Alan Stanley Battye, formerly of Doncaster Road, Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court today (Tuesday 29 January) to be sentenced.
Battye pleaded guilty to 14 offences at an earlier court hearing. The charges included sexual activity with a child and making indecent photographs of children.
The charges relate to a boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The school where he taught said the offences “had no connection with the school”.
Battye taught at Winterhill Secondary in Rotherham and resigned when the offences came to light in 2016.
Battye’s offending came to light in 2016, when Derbyshire Police passed on information to officers in South Yorkshire, after an individual close to the victim reported concerns to police.
Officers identified Battye, arrested him and seized his electronic devices, which contained indecent images of children.
