‘Calculating’ Swindon paedophile Nathan Woods jailed for nine years

A sexual predator twice convicted for sexually abusing schoolgirls has been jailed for nine years.

Judge Jason Taylor yesterday said Nathan Woods must serve six years in prison and an extended three year license period.

The 34-year-old had been on early release from prison for similar offending, when he contacted a schoolgirl, 14, on social media and got her to send him pictures of her touching herself.

Police and the NSPCC branded Woods a calculating and manipulative sex offender. Investigator Darhyl Davies said: “The fact that he has previously committed an identical offence highlights the risk that he poses in the future to young girls that he targets via social media.”

Woods, of Kingswood Avenue, Park North, last month admitted breaching a sexual offences prevention order, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and three of causing a child to watch a sexual act

He had lied about his age, name and appearance after contacting the 14-year-old online. And he also sent the schoolgirl, who thought he was her boyfriend, movies of himself carrying out sex acts on himself and even arranged to meet her, but never turned up.

Philip Warren, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court that Woods was released from prison in summer 2017, half way through a five year sentence.

But in September last year he contacted the girl on Snapchat using a profile of a Darren ‘Daz’ Jones, aged 22, and with a picture of a younger man.

And one of the girl’s friends said the youngster was under the impression he was her boyfriend, and they had twice gone to meet him but he pulled out.

When police examined his mobile phone they found he had called her more than 200 times, with one lasting four hours 39 minutes the day before his arrest.

The child’s mother said her daughter had suffered a meltdown as a result of the contact, going off the rails.

The court heard the offending was almost identical to the matters which got him jailed when he again pretended to be someone else to contact another 14-year-old.

On that occasion he got the child, from Essex, to carry out sex acts on herself while he watched online.

Darhyl Davies, of Wiltshire Police’s public protection department, said: “Nathan Woods is a sex offender who lied and manipulated a vulnerable child for his own sexual gratification. His contact was unrelenting and deliberate.”

“Huge credit must go to the mother of the victim in this case who was tireless in trying to identify him and assisted the police hugely in this investigation.”

Pervert faces jail after using Snapchat to snare young girl victim

A sex offender who was on early release from jail contacted a young girl on Snapchat and sent movies showing him carrying out sex acts on himself, a court heard.

Nathan Woods, 34 used a fake profile when he persuaded the 14-year-old, who believed he was her boyfriend, to send him images of her touching herself. He even arranged to meet her, but never turned up.

The court heard his victim has suffered emotional distress as a result of the contact.

Now a judge has said he fears Woods presents a serious risk of doing the same again in the future and is considering imposing an extended sentence.

Philip Warren, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court Woods was released from prison in summer 2017, half way through a five year sentence for a similar crime.

But in September last year he contacted the girl on Snapchat using a profile of a Darren ‘Daz’ Jones, aged 22, with a picture of a younger man.

One of the girl’s friends said the youngster was under the impression he was her boyfriend, and they had twice gone to meet him but he failed to appear.

When police examined his mobile phone they found he had called her more than 200 times, with one lasting four hours 39 minutes the day before his arrest.

On September 25 he contacted the child and encouraged her to send him indecent pictures of herself. When she sent him images of her in underwear he asked her to move the duvet to one side to give him a better view.

The following day he again asked for similar shots, again sending movies in return of him carrying out a sex act on himself.

As a result of the contact he said the child’s mother said her daughter had suffered a meltdown, going off the rails.

Mr Warren the sentence imposed in 2014 included a sexual offences prevention order which banned the defendant from contacting children online.

Woods, of Kingsdown Avenue, admitted breaching a sexual offences prevention order, two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and three of causing a child to watch a sexual act.

The court heard the offending was almost identical to the case that got him jailed when he contacted another 14-year-old in Essex.

Judge Jason Taylor QC said he was considering passing an extended sentence but wanted a probation report before making a decision.

David Maunder, defending, said he would try to persuade the court that his client should be subject to a determinate sentence.

He said that he had been recalled to serve the remainder of the earlier five years and was not due for release until the week before next Christmas.

Woods was remanded in custody to February 11 for sentencing.

Convicted pervert re-offends

A pervert released early from a five-year prison sentence for inciting an underage girl to carry out sex acts on herself while he watched on a webcam, is facing another jail term after contacting another young girl on the internet.

Nathan Woods was given the sentence in December 2014.

But a year after the 34-year-old was released early from prison, he was discovered breaching a sexual offences prevention order imposed to protect other youngsters.

He contacted a 14-year-old girl online and by telephone between the end of August and October this year.

Woods, of Kingsdown Avenue, appeared in the dock at Swindon Crown Court and pleaded guilty to breaching the order.

Richard Williams, defending, said his client was freed on early release in June last year having served half of the sentence.

He said Woods had since been recalled to complete the sentence but asked for a pre-sentence report on him to be prepared by the probation service.

Judge Jason Taylor QC adjourned the case and remanded him in custody until then.

Woods was living at Seagry Court, Penhill, when he was jailed and made subject to the restrictions nearly four years ago.

He had pretended to be a 16-year-old schoolboy from Swindon to fool a 14-year-old girl in Essex.

He persuaded her to carry out a series of sex acts on herself in front of her computer while he watched online.

When questioned later by investigators, he at first insisted he had not known her age when he was in contact with her.

But emails from the victim’s mother showed she had told him exactly how old her daughter was.

But at the very last minute, before a jury could be sworn in on the morning of his trial Woods pleaded guilty to a multi-incident count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He admitted that on at least 11 occasions he got the child to carry out the sex acts on herself during the year up to October 1, 2012.

At an earlier hearing he had pleaded guilty to four charges of possessing indecent images of a child, relating to pictures she had sent him.

He denied four more counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of causing her to watch him carrying out a sex act on himself.

Those charges were left to lie on the file.
When he was spoken to by the probation service, after eventually admitting what he had done, he showed a lack of insight, the court was told.

The judge who carried out the sentencing in 2014 pointed out that not only did Woods think the young victim had entered into the activity willingly, he did not believe the disparity in their ages was significant.

Pervert jailed for five years

NATHAN Woods faces five years in jail after deceiving a 14-year-old girl and collecting more than 200 lurid images of her.

Woods, 30, of Seagry Court in Penhill, began messaging the girl, from Essex, in 2012 and told her he was a 16-year-old schoolboy from Swindon.

The conversation continued across various online platforms and he convinced the girl to send him images and videos of varying depravity.

Colin Meeke, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court Woods had clearly been devious and manipulative.

The girl’s behaviour began to change at home and in school, where she finally revealed her secret with friends.

Once the police and her parents became involved, Woods was tracked down through his internet service provider.

Last month, in the hours before he was due to face a trial, Woods pleaded guilty to a number of counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. At an earlier date he pleaded guilty to four charges of possessing indecent images of a child.

Sentencing Woods, Judge Tim Mousley, said: “I don’t regard it as an exaggeration to describe her as being very young when you started to corrupt her.

“She described herself as being a scared, stupid, naïve and gullible girl.

“What she doesn’t recognise is that she was, in fact, vulnerable and she shouldn’t criticise herself too harshly for getting into the position she found herself in.

“Those characteristics must have been obvious to you and you manipulated her emotionally and took gross advantage of her.

“You practised a gross deception, an elaborate deception, upon a young girl.

“You were sexually motivated and did it all for your own perverted benefit. You caused distress to her, which it is probably hard to imagine, and all done so that you could exercise control over her and I’m bound to ask myself the question: where would this have all ended, had you taken matters further?

“She says that you could never understand how your behaviour has made her feel, how it has ruined her life.

“In the pre-sentence report, your comments to the probation officer indicate the lack of insight you still have, in relation to what you did, emphasising in your words she entered into this willingly. You don’t regard the disparity in age as significant.”

Woods was sentenced to five years’ jail for the sexual activity charges and 32 months for the indecent images, to be served concurrently. He will also be the subject of a sexual offenders’ prevention order indefinitely.

Penhill man asked 14-year-old girl to perform internet sex acts

A Penhill man who got a 14-year-old girl to perform sex acts on herself over the internet has been warned he is facing a jail term.

Nathan Woods encouraged the child, who lives in the east of England, to do the things in online while he watched.

Now the 30-year-old has to register as a sex offender and has been told he is likely to go to jail when he is sentenced next month.

Woods, of Seagry Court, Penhill, pleaded guilty to a multi-incident count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

He had been due to stand trial at Swindon Crown Court but pleaded guilty before a jury could be sworn in.

Woods admitted that on at least 11 occasions he got the child to carry out the sex acts on herself in the year up to October 1, 2012.

At an earlier hearing he pleaded guilty to four charges of possessing indecent images of a child, relating to pictures she sent him.

He denied four charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of causing her to watch him carrying out a sex act on himself. They will be left to lie on the file.

Colin Meeke, prosecuting, said the defendant had pleaded guilty on a certain basis which was generally accepted.

He said although he was questioning whether he initially knew the girl’s age there was no question he was aware by July 2012.

“There is an e-mail from her mother to him, of Facebook contact, and she told him what age the child was,” Mr Meeke said.

“All the photographs are past the date of the correspondence between the child’s mother and the defendant.”

He said although she was involved in communicating with the defendant Mr Meeke reminded the court that at 14 ‘She is the one who is vulnerable and needs protecting’.

He said “It is undeniable with several hundred miles between them she took the photographs of the things she had done. The law is there to protect her from her own naivety and stupidity.”

Chris Smyth, defending, asked for the case to be adjourned so the probation service could compile a presentence report on his client.

He said “I have told him immediate custody is most likely, he is obviously hopeful that the court can consider a suspended sentence.”

But Judge Tim Mousley QC replied “He should brace himself for what at the moment I consider to be the inevitable arising from the disparity in age.”

He agreed to getting the report from the probation service and released Woods on bail to Thursday December 18.

The judge said “The reason for the delay is so a presentence report can be prepared which will tell me much more about your background.

“You will already appreciate from the exchange between me and Mr Smyth the fact that I am granting you bail now does not mean there will not be an immediate prison sentence: that remains the most likely outcome.”

Although he released him on bail he tod him that he must register as a sex offender with the total period he must continue to do so determined by the sentence.
