Disgraced cop Paul Davies jailed over naked pictures of teen
A ex-police officer once hailed as a ‘kids champion’ has been jailed after admitting making indecent images of a teenage girl .
Former West Midlands police constable Paul Davies – who has since left the force – struck up a friendship with the teenager through his work as a young person’s officer for Dudley , Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
Now, he will serve nine months in prison.
The court was told that following his arrest in May last year, five images were found on his device as a result of him taking screenshots of pictures the teenager had sent to him via Snapchat.
His role saw him specialise in child protection and involved visits to schools, as well as organising out of school activities for youngsters.
The 57-year-old, of Upper Gornal, also admitted making the indecent images, between March 12 and April 15 last year, at a previous hearing.
The sentencing took place at Wolverhampton Crown Court today, March 7, following a pre-sentencing report.
Summing up the case, judge James Burbage QC said: “Previously you served as a police officer for West Midlands Police for just under 30 years
“You’ve had to retire because you had to because you committed this serious offence.
“Not only were you a serving PC at the time but you were also a young person’s officer and looked after children.
“When you went to that college, you interviewed two girls and suggested them to follow you.
“I have to deal with you on what you encouraged – and what you did.
“The offences were so serious.”
“Because of the position you held and the essence of grooming behind this it would not be just to avoid a custodial sentence,” the judge said.
