Man found with hundreds of indecent images of kids handed community work order
A man caught with hundreds of indecent images of children has been put on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
Depraved Gary Barran will be under supervision during that time and must carry out 240 hours of unpaid community work.
The images were found when police raided his home in Chapelton.
Barran, 51, now of Birnam Place, Hamilton appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week and admitted downloading the images at his then home in the village’s Stoneyhill Wynd.
Paula Russell, prosecuting, said 341 indecent images were found on four of Barran’s electronic devices, including a laptop computer, when police carried out a search in December last year.
Investigators estimated the ages of the children involved ranged from three to 13.
Asked by officers who was responsible for downloading the indecent images, Barran replied: “I guess it would only be me.”
