Paedophile foster carer took in young sexual abuse victim before abusing her himself
A sexually abused youngster hoping for sanctuary in a new home was then abused by her paedophile foster carer.
MOD worker Stephen Banks had a positive influence on many foster children in his time.
But he secretly preyed on one previously abused girl to act out his sexual desires with, Bristol Crown Court heard.
He targeted her and another girl when they were aged under 16.
Banks, 51, of Brangwyn Grove in Lockleaze, denied wrongdoing and forced the complainants to have a trial.
A jury convicted him three sexual assaults involving one girl, as well as showing adult pornography to her.
It convicted him of two sexual assaults against the second girl as well as possessing a video of a third child aged between three and four being sexually abused.
The Recorder of Bristol His Honour Judge Peter Blair QC jailed him for 17-and-a-half years as well as a year’s extended licence.
He told Banks: “If you had pleaded guilty you would have received a substantial discount.
“You decided to take your chance, taking the coward’s course and challenging the truth of what they said.
“All of the time it was you who was a liar.
“They spoke of your unpleasant treatment of them.
“You messed with their bodies and you messed with their heads.”
Banks was made the subject of an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to prevent him from re-offending.
The court heard Banks got one girl to touch his private parts, touched her intimately and showed her adult pornography.
He also touched a second girl intimately over her clothing and retained a photo of her backside.
Police found he had an image of a child aged three to four being abused.
One of the complainants made a statement saying how she couldn’t remember feeling happy when she was young, and suffered from rages and anxiety without initially realizing the reason was abuse at Banks’ hands.
