A MAN has been jailed for 10 years after he dragged a woman in to an alleyway in Tottington and attempted to rape her.

Jamie Ware, aged 23, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempted rape and attempted robbery at an earlier hearing.

The Judge ordered him to remain on extended license for four years thereafter as he is deemed dangerous.

He will remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.

The court heard how in the early hours of Friday, June 1 of this year, the victim was walking along Bury Road when she was approached by Ware who grabbed her and drag her into a nearby alleyway.

Ware continued his attack, repeatedly punching and kicking the woman as she cried out for help.

The woman’s screams alerted a resident who looked out of her window and upon seeing the attack, called the police.

Another resident who also heard the attack saw Ware attempting to snatch the victim’s handbag from her grasp whilst continuing to punch her in the face.

The neighbour shouted at Ware to stop but he threatened she would be next if she didn’t walk away.

Another man had heard the commotion and approached Ware, who fled a short distance before being detained by the man until police arrived on the scene.

Minutes later, officers attended and Ware was subsequently arrested and taken in to custody.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for her injuries and has been supported by specialist officers since the ordeal.
