Pervert caught with images of babies being abused walks free

A pervert caught with 1,000 vile images of children including babies being abused has walked free from court.

Twisted Christopher Murray, aged 24, downloaded hundreds of still images and videos of infants being attacked – some thought to be aged between three months and six months.

Police found that Murray used sick search terms to search on the internet, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

Handing him a suspended sentence, a judge said that the images were “pretty awful”.

Recorder Rufus Taylor told him: “This offence is aggravated by the great number of images, the fact that many are in the most serious category and that many are moving.”

The judge added that after reading a probation report he was convinced Murray “needed some help”.

He handed the defendant a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years with sex offender treatment.

Murray, of Crelake Park in Tavistock, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of indecent images between January and September last year.

The court heard he had 114 still images and 76 videos in Category A – showing children being sexually abused by adults.

He also had 529 stills and 21 videos in the less severe Category B and 255 images and five videos in Category C.

Michael Brown, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Murray came to the attention of the police when he bought a Trojan device used for hacking into other people’s computers.

He added that officers raided his home in September last year and seized a tower unit with four internal storage units containing the images.

Mr Brown said the images appeared to have been downloaded at the same time the previous January.

The court heard that Murray had no previous convictions.

Recorder Taylor also ordered that Murray pays £340 prosecution costs and forfeits his computer equipment.

The defendant was handed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to help police monitor his use of the internet.
