Derbyshire man admits string of sex offences against underage girl

A 63-year-old Derbyshire man has admitted sexually assaulting an underage girl.

Dressed in a purple jumper, Graham Hackett also confessed to possessing sick child abuse images.

Appearing from custody at Derby Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to one count of assault by penetration of a child under the age of 13.

Hackett also pleaded guilty to five counts of sexually assaulting the victim, one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child, one count of causing or inciting a girl aged under to 13 to engage in sexual activity and one count of possessing 22 indecent images of a child.

The hearing was told how he has suffered two strokes and has also undergone two “significant heart operations” in recent years.

Judge Shaun Smith QC adjourned the case until December 13, when he is scheduled to sentence Hackett, of Linton, Swadlincote.

He remanded him into custody while the probation service prepare a pre-sentence report and the prosecution obtain victim personal statements.

Judge Smith said: “You have pleaded guilty to very serious offences, but I need to know more about them and about you before I sentence you on December 13.”

Hackett replied: “I understand.”
