Jailed: Pervert caught by paedophile hunting team
An immigrant from Ethiopia who came to the UK to escape poverty has been jailed after he was caught by a paedophile hunting team
Girmay Tekie of Leeds appeared at Leeds Crown Court where he faced charges of:
Offender 18 or over attempting to incite a child 13-15 with sexual activity
Adult attempted to meet a girl under 16 years of age following grooming
The court was told that in November 2017, Girmay Tekie had contacted the online profile of what he believed was a 14 year old girl.
Tekie went on to send a string of sexually charged messages stating his intentions to engage in sexual activity with the girl, and to ‘take her virginity’
The pervert arranged to meet the girl, but when Tekie arrived, he was met by paedophile hunting team ‘Net Justice’,
The team questioned him on his internet activity, and explained that the child was infact one of their team members who pose online as children in an attempt to catch sexual predators who groom youngsters online.
The police were called and Tekie was arrested.
Tekie pleaded not guilty but was found guilty by trial
The judge handed Tekie:
Ten months imprisonment
Ten Year sexual harm prevention order
To register as a sex offender for a period of ten years
