Bath man, 60, pleads guilty to making indecent images and videos of girls under 11

A 60-year-old Bath man will be sentenced by a judge after admitting downloading indecent photographs and videos of girls aged 11 or under.

Michael Gareth Wood, of Coxley Drive, Larkhall, appeared at Bath Magistrates’ Court after being charged with three counts of making indecent photographs of a child on or before September 26, 2017.

The first charge stated that when Wood was at his home he downloaded indecent images of a child, namely five Category A indecent images and movies of children.

The second charge read that he downloaded three Category B indecent images and movies of children.

A third charge stated that he made 39 Category C indecent images and movies of children.

Wood pleaded guilty to the charges on October 17, where a follow up hearing was adjourned to Wednesday, November 7.

At that hearing Prosecutor Jane Cooper said: “He knew it was wrong but sometimes the impulse was too strong and he couldn’t stop himself.

“He had been doing it since 2006.”

Ms Cooper said some of the girls in the images and films were aged 11 or under.

She added: “He would masturbate when viewing the material and afterwards would delete files and the file sharing programme.

“It was just a build up. The thoughts would come and he would access the material, mainly during the night and always when he was alone.”

Wood is on unconditional bail and will attend Bristol Crown Court on December 6 to learn his fate.
