Dumfries pervert sent lurid messages to girl
A man who sent lurid messages and a picture of his privates to someone he thought was a girl under 16 has been placed on the sex offenders’ register.
David Nicol, who was nicked after being confronted by members of the online group Keeping Our Kids Safe, will also be kept under supervision for two years, won’t be able to be alone with anyone under 17 and has been banned from certain websites.
Giving themselves the title of paedophile hunters, who seek out predators who groom children, some of the group travelled to Dumfries after Nicol, 31, had arranged to meet up with a youngster at the train station on January 14.
Unbeknown to him, the girl he thought he had struck up a friendship with over the internet was a 34-year-old female member of the group.
They set a trap for Nicol, of Lockerbie Road in Dumfries, after his messages became increasingly of a sexual nature.
Nicol admitted that, during a two-month period, he repeatedly sent messages of a sexual nature to a person he believed to be a child between the ages of 13 and 16 and tried to communicate indecently.
He also admitted sending an indecent picture on January 2 as well as making arrangements for the girl to travel with the intention of meeting her and intending to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
