Chelmsford: Baker groomed boys for sex
A baker has been jailed for a campaign of sexual abuse against young boys
Michael Green groomed the youngsters by making friends with them before he carried out a series of indecent assaults.
And a court also heard how 47-year-old Green would move on to younger boys once his victims reached their early teens.
Green, 47, employed boys in the Tendring area where he gained their trust before assaulting them.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard how indecent assaults dating back 18 years took place on fishing trips and in Green’s Walton flat as well as the bakery shops he ran.
Green, of no fixed address, admitted a total of 22 indecent assaults, one serious sexual offence, one of indecency with a minor and one of possessing cannabis when he appeared in court for sentence.
Judge Gareth Hawkesworth jailed him for a total of seven years and told him to stay on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
“These boys were aged between 11 and 15 when you befriended them and gained their trust when they were at a particularly vulnerable age. The impact statements show devastating and lasting damage to at least six of your victims,” he told Green.
“You have a deep-seated and dangerous obsession with young boys.”
The court heard the assaults dated back to 1984 and continued until last year when matters came to light.
Green would befriend boys through a church he attended or by employing them.
Some would be taken on fishing trips and others would receive extra money in their pay packets.
At the same time, they would be indecently assaulted before they reached a certain age and Green befriended younger boys, Alison Pople, prosecuting, said.
On one ocassion, he persuaded one young boy to perform an indecent act while he was filmed on video by Green, the court heard.
