Jury finds Bedminster man exposed himself to two children

A Bedminster man faces ten years’ in prison after being convicted of exposing himself to two youngsters.

One lad aged nine said Jamie Ridler did sex acts in his presence and put his hand down the boy’s trousers.

After the matter was reported to police a girl aged six made a complaint that Ridler exposed himself to her, and said his penis looked like a “wrap”.

Ridler, aged 25, of Bedminster Road, denied four charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child as well as two sexual assaults of a child aged under 13 regarding the lad.

He denied a single charge of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child regarding the girl.

A jury unanimously convicted him of three charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of the boy.

It also found him guilty of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of the girl.

Judge Paul Cook adjourned the case, pending a probation report, for sentence at Taunton Crown Court on November 22.

Ridler was told to register as a sex offender.

Virginia Cornwall, prosecuting, said the boy told police Ridler would touch himself intimately, when they were alone, and said not to tell anyone.

The boy said Ridler also put his hand down the boy’s trousers and tried to touch him, but he stopped him.

When police interviewed Ridler he denied ever being alone with the boy.

Shortly after the interview a six-year-old girl, unknown to the lad, complained to her mum that Ridler had exposed himself to her.

Miss Cornwall told a jury: “She describes showing him her ‘baddie’ (red mark) near her belly button.

“As a result he said he had a ‘baddie’.

“He opened his trousers and she describes his penis as a wrap.

“After he said ‘don’t tell anybody’.”

Police interviewed Ridler a second time and he said he was never alone with the girl.

Miss Cornwall said: “This defendant is a man with a sexual interest in children.

“Two children, unknown to each other, have both made separate and independent complaints about his sexual behaviour towards them.”
