Pervert blames drink and drugs for his urge to look at child sexual abuse images
A Newarthill man blamed drink and drugs for his urge to look at indecent images of children.
Police found 347 disgusting photographs of youngsters when they raided Thomas Black’s home in November last year.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard 161 of those were described as Category A, featuring the worst types of abuse.
Black (29), of Lochlea Way, admitted possessing child sexual abuse images
Michael Macintosh, prosecuting, said Black was interviewed by police after his laptop was seized and analysed.
The fiscal told the court: “He said he used it to access normal adult porn, but accepted he looked at indecent images of children when under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“He said he would delete them straight away. He said he doesn’t want to view them, but when he’s under the influence it’s something that comes into his head.”
Defence agent Vincent McGovern said Black would “embrace and benefit from” a community payback order imposed as an alternative to prison.
Sheriff Thomas Millar agreed not to jail him and instead ordered him to do 240 hours of unpaid work.
Black will be supervised by social workers for three years and will be on the sex offenders’ register for the same period.
The sheriff told him: “I’m persuaded not to impose custody as the prospect of rehabilitation appears positive.”
During the three years, Black must not have any contact with under-16s without approval and must make any device capable of accessing the internet available for inspection.
