Pervert  thought he was meeting underage girls

A pervert who arranged to meet two schoolgirls aged just 11 and 12 has been jailed after he was caught by paedophile hunters.

John Mottram turned up to a rendezvous point in Bosworth Drive, Chelmsley Wood to be confronted by the campaigners.

The 49-year-old had previously sent a picture of him exposing himself, talked about having sex with one of the girls and encouraged other children to come to the meet-up.

But Warwick Crown Court heard the girls he thought he was messaging – Nina, aged 11, and 12-year-old Katie – did not exist.

Fake profiles had been placed on a website by a group who had set out to trap paedophiles.

Mottram began taking part in online chats in June, Matthew Barnes, prosecuting, said.

When he was arrested, he accepted he knew the girls he thought he was messaging with were just 11 and 12.

And he agreed he engaged in sexual communication and discussed them bringing friends to the meeting.

Mottram, 49, of Lane Avenue, Birchills, Walsall , pleaded guilty to three charges of attempting to incite sexual activity with a child.

He was jailed for two years and four months, and was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years.

Mottram accepted he had driven to Chelmsley Wood after arranging to meet Katie, but claimed he did so to see if she was real, and that he was ‘not going to do anything.’

Proposing a suspended sentence with a sex offender programme, she added: “He has taken the first step by admitting responsibility, including the element of sexual gratification, and he will be forced to address the real reasons behind his conduct.”

But jailing Mottram, Judge Sally Hancox said it was not possible to pass anything other than an immediate sentence.
