Maryport man sentenced for online child sex crimes

A MAN who made illegal online advances to what he thought was a 13-year-old girl has been sentenced by a judge.

For almost a month, 34-year-old Marc Anthony Maisey made a string of sexual comments, sent lewd images of himself and also requested naked photographs. Maisey continued to do this despite the “girl” repeatedly telling him “her” age was 13.

Maisey eventually learned he was actually communicating with a undercover police officer.

He was brought to court and admitted two charges – one of attempted sexual communication with a child aged under 16; and another of attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

His criminal conduct occurred during July and August.

Maisey, a man of previous good character and the father of two young children, was sentenced earlier today (TUES). Judge Peter Davies heard of his diagnosis on the autistic spectrum as a child, and his remorse.

After considering mitigation, Judge Davies suspended a 16-month jail term for two years. Maisey, of Parkside, Crosby, Maryport, must complete an accredited sex offenders’ course, and rehabilitation.

In addition, he must sign the sex offenders’ register and comply with the terms of a sexual harm prevention order – both for seven years.

Maryport man admits child sex offending

A man must sign the sex offenders’ register after he admitted making illegal advances towards a person he thought was a teenage girl.

When he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court, Marc Anthony Maisey pleaded guilty to two offences.

Maisey, 34, admitted charges of attempted sexual communication with a child aged under 16, and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

The court heard his criminal conduct was committed between July 11 and August 9. It is said he believed the person with whom he was communicating was a 13-year-old girl – but was actually not.

Maisey’s case was adjourned by Judge James Adkin, who ordered the probation service to prepare a pre-sentence report. This will look into the defendant’s background, and his offending.

Maisey, of Parkside, Crosby, Maryport, was remanded in custody, and is due to be sentenced at the crown court on October 9.

Judge Adkin told him: “I am not making any promises as to what your sentence will be. All options (including custody) are available to the court.

In view of his guilty pleas, Maisey heard he must now sign the sex offenders’ register.
