Detained kidnapper Shane Hart arrested after escaping

A man who fled while on escorted leave from a mental health centre in east London has been arrested.

Shane Hart, 54, was on leave from the John Howard Centre in Homerton when he escaped on Wednesday afternoon. He was held in the early hours in Watford.

Hart was originally detained in 1994 after being convicted of taking a child without permission and false imprisonment.

He previously went missing while on a trip to a shopping centre in 2009.

Child snatcher absconds from east London psychiatric unit

Police are warning the public not to approach a child snatcher who has absconded from a psychiatric unit in east London.

Shane Hart went missing after he was on escorted leave from the John Howard Centre, Homerton, yesterday afternoon.

The 54-year-old was placed in the centre following a conviction in 1994 for false imprisonment and taking a child without lawful authority.

Hart was last seen close to the unit in Brooksby Walk, Homerton, at 3.05pm.

Police in Hackney are appealing for assistance in tracing him.

He is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, with dark hair and was wearing a black jacket, mustard shirt with cream trousers.

A statement from police said: “We advise the public not to approach Hart but to call 999 immediately if he is sighted.”

According to The Sun, Hart absconded from the centre on a previous occasion in 2009 while on a shopping trip in Stratford.
