Jail for Larkhall paedo ‘Naughty John’ who was snared in Snapchat sting by cops
A Larkhall paedophile caught after an undercover police officer posed as a girl of 13 has been sent to prison for a year.
John Donnelly, who described himself as “naughty”, sent the cop naked pictures of himself, believing his online chats were with a teenage schoolgirl.
Donnelly (36), of John Street, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week after he admitted the indecent behaviour on various occasions in July last year.
He also admitted having hundreds of indecent images of children and extreme pornography depicting bestiality.
The court heard Donnelly has a previous conviction for similar offending, and when police caught him this time he told officers: “There’s not much I can say. I’m in the wrong and I’m sorry. I need help.”
Michael Macintosh, prosecuting, said an undercover cop created an online profile of a girl aged 13 from North Wales and logged on to Snapchat. ‘She’ then got a message from ‘Naughty John’.
Mr Macintosh told the court: “The officer made it clear ‘she’ was 13 and the accused’s response was: ‘Oh yes, well I’m still very naughty’.
“He then engaged in sexual communications which included sending explicit images.”
Sheriff Thomas Millar pointed out that Donnelly had committed the current offences while under supervision imposed in the previous case.
The sheriff jailed him for a year and ordered that he be supervised for two years on his release. Donnelly will also be on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
