Two years for sexual assault on teenager

A Beverley man has been jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a teenager with learning difficulties.

Steven Jessop (37), of Lowfield Road, was sentenced at Hull Crown Court this week following a three-day trial last month.

He had denied a charge of sexual assault but was unanimously convicted by a jury.

The court heard that Jessop, a former Beverley Racecourse groundsman, groomed an 18-year-old man, offering him drugs and drink and exchanging texts before meeting him by chance in the Cross Keys pub.

He pinched his bottom, pulled down his trousers, groped him and later kissed him in the street despite the other man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – telling him he wanted nothing to do with him
