Child rapist back behind bars after twice being caught with sick indecent images of boys

A convicted child rapist is back behind bars after he was twice caught with sick indecent images and videos of young boys.

Carl Duthie was jailed in 2011 for a series of offences against boys, including four rapes.

After his release from a six year prison sentence, he was subject to sex offender registration, meaning he had to keep the police informed of where he was living.

But he breached that rule twice and when police finally tracked him down, he was found to have indecent pictures and videos of boys.

Now the 28-year-old pervert has been branded a danger and jailed for four years at Newcastle Crown Court.

Judge Stephen Earl told him: “These children are harmed.

“The sort of vile trade in these sort of images can only continue when there are people like yourself who trade in it, ie to make and download these images for their own sexual gratification.

“It’s my view you represent a significant risk of serious harm to children in the future.”

The court heard Duthie had been locked up in July 2011 for four rapes of a child under 16, three offences of sexual activity with a child under 13 and three of incitement of a child under 13. Those offences occurred between 2005 and 2008.

In July last year police went to his last known address, his mother’s home, where he had said he was living. It became apparent he was not living there.

A few days later he was seen in Gateshead town centre in a cafe and was in possession of a mobile phone, which was seized.

It was found to contain indecent images of boys

Police made several visits to Duthie’s mother’s home to arrest him but without success.

Then, in March this year, he was seen in Wallsend town centre and arrested.

Two mobile phones were found to contain further indecent images of children, including videos and images of the most serious type, Category A.

The age range of the children in the images was between one and 15, the court heard.

Duthie, of no fixed address, who has 41 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images and two of breaching his sex offender notification requirements.

He was jailed for four years, of which he must serve at least two-thirds and he will be on an extended licence until 2026.

He was also given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and continues to be on the sex offenders register.

Peter Schofield, defending, said Duthie had been living with his partner.

He said: “He became involved in a new relationship and his partner, who sits in a wheelchair, is in court. That relationship provided him with a certain measure of stability.
