A 63-year-old man has been jailed for 27 months after being caught with 57,000 indecent images.
David Crosbie, of Dalbeattie, was also put on the sex offenders’ register for a decade after admitting having the images, some of which showed children being forced into sexual activity.
Crosbie, of Barrhill Road, pleaded guilty to possessing the images at his home between March, 2006, and June last year. Among them were extreme images involving people and animals.
Police had received information that images of children had been downloaded on to certain online addresses, Dumfries Sheriff Court heard, and in Crosbie’s case found more than 55,000 still pictures and 1,700-plus moving images.
A solicitor stressed Crosbie had no previous convictions and said that many of the images were in the lowest category.
