Ballintoy pervert sentenced for abusing children
A Ballintoy man has been handed a ten year custodial sentence after pleading guilty to a string of sexual offences against children.
Sammy Smylie, 60, of Larrybane Park, appeared at Antrim Crown court in July when he pleaded guilty to 26 charges spanning a period between 2006 and 2017.
Smylie faced 18 charges relating to three individuals – two males and a female – between 2009 and June 7 this year.
The charges include:
Three of rape against a male
Nine of sexual assault
Two charges of false imprisonment
Two charges of indecent assault on a male
One charge of gross indecency with a male
Five charges of causing or inciting a child under the age of 13 – a boy – to engage in sexual activity.
Smylie, who has already served a period of time behind bars, will serve five years in custody and a further five on licence.
The judge made a sexual offences prevention order against Smylie for eight years, which means he is prohibited from any unsupervised access or contact with any child aged under 16 or any vulnerable adult.
He will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely
