A man who raped a teenage girl in an east London park has been jailed.
Otis Morrow, 38 (24.01.79) of High Road, Leyton was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 20 October to life imprisonment to serve a minimum of 16 years.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Morrow was arrested and charged on Wednesday, 19 April with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. He was remanded to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court the following day and pleaded not guilty.
The court heard that at 19:12hrs on Wednesday, 19 April, police were called to a 17-year-old girl at Leyton Jubilee Park. The girl was found distressed and in a dishevelled state.
She said that Morrow approached her in the park and asked for a light for a cigarette. They both sat together and talked. He asked her to assist him with moving some items in the park and she agreed to help.
Once they were in a secluded area of the park, Morrow pushed the teenager to the floor, sexually assaulted her and then raped her.
Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command attended and were able to identify Morrow from her description. Two hours later, Morrow was arrested and taken to an east London police station where he was charged.
