Newport man jailed for rape of teenager

A Newport man has been jailed for 13 years after raping a teenage girl and sexually assaulting another.

In July Mark Caston of Ty Ffynnon Farm in Bettws was found guilty of six sexual offences against two teenage girls.

Appearing for sentencing on Friday, Cardiff Crown Court heard how Caston, 46, sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl on two occasions in late 2015.

Judge Fitton told the court the teenager was “strongly under the influence of alcohol” when Caston “made his move” on the first occasions – forcing her to perform oral sex.

During the second incident the victim was alone when the defendant pushed her onto a sofa and raped her.

Judge Fitton said: “She was a vulnerable young woman at the time.”

He added: “You used this to get close to the girl.”

The second victim was attacked by Caston in November 2017 – while he was on bail pending trial for sexual assault and rape.

The woman, who was also a teenager at the time, was alone when Caston “took the opportunity to make a move” – putting his hand down her top, removing her bra and kissing her breast.

For the first four sexual offences in relation to the first victim – including rape, Caston was handed a 12-year prison sentence.

He was handed an additional year, to be served consecutively for the other two offences relating to the second victim.

He has also been ordered to sign the sex offenders register, which he will remain on indefinitely and he was handed a restraining order for both victims.
