Online child groomer sentenced

A pervert who believed he was talking to two young girls online has walked free from court with a suspended sentence

Bus Driver Barry Lewis, of Stevenage appeared at St Albans Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to: Attempting sexual communication with a child

The court was told that Lewis had contacted an online profile of who he believed was a 13-year-old girl. Lewis sent sexual messages indicating that he wanted to engage in sexual activity with her.

However, the child did not exist and was actually a member of online child protection team ‘Totnes Justice’ who pose online as children to snare online groomers

The team handed their evidence into police who arrested

Lewis was handed a 36 Month Community Order with a 60 Day Rehabilitative Activity Order

He was told that he must complete 25 Sessions Of Horizon Sex Offenders Programme

Lewis was put on the sex offenders register for 5 years and a sexual harm prevention order for 7 years was put in place

The phone he used to send the messages was to be destroyed
