Child sex offender pursued relationship with young girl
A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child and possessing indecent images of children.
Ross Simmonds, of no fixed address, appeared at Leicester Crown Court yesterday to be sentenced after admitting the offences at a previous hearing, on July 9.
He pleaded guilty to eight counts of sexual activity with a child, and three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
Leicestershire Police said that the inappropriate relationship between Simmonds and his now 15-year-old victim was reported to them in March this year and an investigation commenced.
He was sentenced to serve six years in prison and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He will also be the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years.
Commenting on the case, Detective Constable Chris Perry, said Simmonds “preyed on” the young girl and pursued a sexual relationship with despite knowing it was wrong.
He said: “Simmonds preyed on his young victim, taking advantage of her youth and emotional inexperience.
“He knew what he was doing was wrong, but this didn’t stop him pursuing a sexual relationship with her.”
