Widnes man given six years in prison after being found guilty of four indecent assaults

Robert Bagley, 38, of Foster Street, committed the offences against a female in the late 1980s.

The girl cannot be named because of the nature of the offences.

Bagley appeared before Warrington Crown Court last Friday.

Judge David Hale told Bagley: “At the age of 38 something in your past has come back to haunt you.

“For the last number of years since you married you have lived a blameless life, you are the father of a family that look up to you and your wife is devastated by what has happened.

“But in the late 80s, when you were a relatively young man, you were party to what became an abusive relationship with this girl which has had a serious effect on her.

“If you had been arrested at the time the sentence would be approaching double figures.

“But it must reflect the fact that you have lived a different sort of life since then.”

Bagley was given six years for the rape, six months to run concurrently for three of the indecent assaults and four years to run concurrent for one of the indecent assaults.

He will have to sign the sex offenders register for life.
