A chef has been jailed for 20 months after he admitted sexually touching an eight-year-old girl and possessing indecent images of children.
Marcello Delima, 44, of Old Millstones, Preston, committed the offence while the youngster was staying over at his wife’s house last December – and then blamed the child. Preston Crown Court heard how the girl played with the couple’s two-year-old son, before the boy and his mother fell asleep after dinner.
Delima, who is originally from Brazil, then asked the girl to sit beside him while he used his laptop computer and touched her sexually.
Robert Galinsky, prosecuting, said the child was “terrified” by the ordeal. When she went home the girl told her mum about the assault.
The matter was reported to police, who arrested Delima and seized his computer. Officers found two movies downloaded and deleted by Delima earlier that month.
Child abuse images is ranked into five levels. Delima had accessed a level two video and a level four video, which includes young children in sexual acts with adults.
Judge Heather Lloyd said: “Nobody who hears the facts of this case can be anything other than outraged.
“In some way you sought to blame the child for sitting on your knee.
“You’ve said you cannot explain or come to terms with what you’ve done and that may well be true, but in short you’ve taken little responsibility.“
