Online groomer caught by paedophile hunters

A man who sent sexually explicit chat to who he believed was a young child has avoided a prison sentence

Michael Martin of Rochdale, appeared in court where he admitted:

  • One count of inciting a child under 13 to watch sexual videos

  • Two counts of inciting a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual conversation

  • Two counts of meeting a child aged under 13 following sexual grooming

The court was told that Martin had contacted what he believed was an online profile of a young child. He sent sexually explicit chat, images of his penis and videos containing adult pornography

However, the child was really a decoy for paedophile hunting team ‘For Our Kids UK’.

The team handed their evidence into police who in turn arrested Mellon. He was later charged.

The judge sentenced Martin to:

  • Five years on the sex offenders register

  • A five year sexual harm prevention order

  • 40 day rehabilitation activity course
