Pervert avoids prison after sexually assaulting vulnerable woman

A pervert has avoided a prison sentence after he sexually assaulted a vulnerable 23 year old woman who suffers from special needs

Robert Dannatt, 61 of Spital Bridge Whitby appeared at Scarborough Magistrates Court in June where he admitted the sexual offence.

A date for sentencing was set at York Crown Court, but Dannatt failed to appear and an arrest warrant was issued.

Dannatt was later spotted in a local pub. He was swiftly arrested by police and appeared in court the same day.

The court was told that the female was on a bus travelling home, when Dannatt touched her sexually.

He went on to say crude and sexually motivated comments to the woman, indicating that he wanted to engage in sexual activity with her.

The victim was left frightened and confused by the confrontation as she did not understand why the man had targeted her.

Dannatt avoided a prison sentence. He was sentenced to:

  • Suspended sentence for 24 months

Sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.

To sign sex offenders register for 10 years.

33 sessions of sex offenders treatment.

    Rehabilitation activity for 15 days.
