Shameless paedophile locked up again – this time for raping primary school child

A paedophile was jailed for six years for raping a little girl and sexually assaulting another child.

Pervert Daniel Campbell, 27, was branded ‘dangerous’ by Judge Neil Flewitt QC, after Liverpool Crown Court heard that one of his victims tried to take her own life.

Campbell’s crimes date back more than a decade, when he was a teenager and his victims were yet to start secondary school.

In a victim impact statement the girl he raped said: “In the years after the assault I felt my body was tarred.

“I felt worthless, like nobody would ever love me.”

She said: “I couldn’t go out for fear I would be raped again. If I saw someone who looked like him I would have a panic attack.

“To this day I still suffer from flashbacks.”

She added that she has found romantic relationships difficult, as she believed boys were going to hurt her.

She said that her schoolwork suffered due to lack of sleep and because of flashbacks, and panic attacks.

She also said that she self harmed.

Campbell, of Peel House Lane, Widnes, abused his other victim by repeatedly reaching under her skirt touching her genitals.

She said she has suffered from anxiety and depression since the abuse took place, took excessive drugs and turned to self-harm.

When she was 16, she attempted to take her own life.

She also said her relationships with boys had been affected, and told the court of how her relationship with her mother had been strained as she could not tell her about her ordeal, leading her mother to simply put her behaviour down to ‘being naughty’.

Campbell has a long list of sexual convictions dating between 2007 and 2015, and has served two jail sentences already.

Anthony Rose, defending, said that the offences for which his client was being sentenced were almost the first he had committed – but conceded that over the same period he had been abusing a third very young girl.

Mr Rose said that, as well as it being one of his first offences, another mitigating factor was his young age and lack of maturity.

He added that after Campbell was imprisoned in 2013 for yet another case of sexual abuse after grooming a 15 year-old over Facebook, manipulating her into sending explicit pictures and touching her breast when they met in person, Campbell admitted he had a problem and said he wanted help.

Mr Rose said that there hadn’t been any offences against young girls since then – although Campbell was jailed for groping a man at a sexual offenders course in 2016.

Judge Flewitt, said: “It is deeply troubling that he has not left sex offending behind him. He is in complete denial.”

He said Campbell posed a significant risk of harm to the public and expressed particular concern over Campbell’s unwillingness to admit his attraction to young children,

Campbell, who sat with his head bowed for the majority of the hearing, was sentenced to six years in prison for rape and six months in prison for two counts of sexual assault, to run concurrently.

Judge Flewitt said the sentence would have been longer had Campbell been over the age of 18 at the time of his crimes.
