Wanted – can you help find man on the run after abusing 14-year-old girl
The area’s most wanted man Liam McKiernan is being hunted by police after he failed to turn up at court to be sentenced for three charges of sexual activity with a child.
But McKiernan, 30, who also uses the surname Brown, has been spotted by the mother of his victim in the street near to where she lives with her daughter.
At Grimsby Crown Court he was bailed to an address at Brereton Avenue, Grimsby.
Judge Graham Reeds QC issued a warrant not backed for bail after he failed to attend court on Monday.
He had admitted three charges of sexual activity with a 14 year old girl, three years ago.
But the mother of the teenage girl alleged he had breached bail conditions by visiting her street.
She also claimed he had breached bail conditions by being out late at night and followed her to her door.
She is distressed that the warrant for his arrest has not been successful and he is still on the run.
“I could not believe he was bailed in the first place. He has not been living at the bail address and has been going out all over the place. He needs catching.
“When I contacted police to find out if he had been arrested and told them he was continuing to terrify us, they just said we should keep our doors and windows locked or moved in with another relative. But I have not slept. Every noise I hear puts me in panic. They suggest we move out but we have done no wrong. We have suffered enough as a family.
“They need to be going round and getting him because my daughter is at risk. He has been brazen enough to be in the next street to us.
“He has been going out in taxis and I am sure a taxi driver knows where he is. He is walking about as if nothing has happened. I am convinced someone is hiding him.”
She told how her daughter suffers from post traumatic stress disorder and regularly visits a mental health professional.
The mum said: “If anything happened to my daughter I would hold them responsible.
“It has destroyed our lives. I want justice so that he doesn’t do this to anybody else.”
The teenage victim, who must not be identified by law, told GrimsbyLive she had hoped the sentencing had gone ahead on Monday and he had faced justice.
“Not until that has happened can I move on with my life. I just want to lead a normal happy life. I am hoping to go to college in September. I still suffer flashbacks and nightmares and can’t sleep.
“All I want to do is get my head down and train to be a solicitor. I like doing art but my life has been in a rut for three years.”
Her mother told how her daughter had been sent messages by McKiernan, who was getting her to send naked photos of herself.
He had also suggested he would take her away from her home to live elsewhere.
That led to sexual activity when she was just 14 years old.
In court his defence barrister said McKiernan had not attended court and he could not oppose a warrant for his arrest.
He was jailed in March 2016 for 18 months offences of fraud in which he had tried to claim back a tax refund. The total amount that McKiernan tried to claim back was £51,623, including for roofing work.
He admitted to three offences of sexual activity with a child and was due to be sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday.
