Paedophile groomed teen for sex and didn’t stop even when police warned him to stay away

A paedophile continued having sex with an underage girl in care even after being given an official warning by police to stay away from the youngster.

Thomas Luke Naylor befriended the teenage girl and groomed her into having a sexual relationship then continued to have sex with her and buy her presents and alcohol even after being served with a child abduction warning notice.

Eventually the girl told someone what was happening and the 26-year-old was arrested.

Swansea Crown Court heard Naylor befriended the troubled girl and began providing her with alcohol and cigarettes and giving her gifts of clothes and jewellery.

Nicola Powell, prosecuting, said the girl lacked family support and was vulnerable – smoking cannabis and drinking vodka daily and staying out late at night – and that Naylor became a “brotherly figure” to the girl.

The court heard the relationship then became sexual.

Alarm bells were raised about Naylor’s behaviour and he was served with a child abduction warning notice – a formal notice from police ordering him not to associate with, or have contact with, the child.

Despite this Naylor continued the relationship with the girl for another four months.

The prosecutor read out a victim impact statement from the girl in which she said she “did not actually want to have sex” with Naylor but that he “made me feel like somebody was there for me” and “made me feel good about myself”.

Naylor, of Inkerman Street, Llanelli, admitted two counts of sexual activity with a child.

The court heard his victim was now living a more stable life and was studying at college.

Judge Paul Thomas QC said Naylor had groomed his victim and engaged in a “prolonged, calculated course of conduct”.

He told the defendant he had some sympathy for the tragedies and difficulties he had experienced in his upbringing but added: “What you have done is to ruin somebody else’s childhood.”

Naylor was jailed for five years and three months.

He was also made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order and will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
