Prison sentence for Bristol man who molested 11-year-old girl
A drunken man who squeezed an 11-year-old girl’s bottom has been jailed.
Joshua Burton went into the girl’s bedroom and touched her thigh, Bristol Crown Court heard. He then squeezed her backside three times over her pyjama shorts.
The distressed victim was found in a “robotic state” by her family the next day. She reported what happened at school and police were called in.
Burton, 25, of Windcliff Crescent, Lawrence Weston, pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child aged under 13 in April last year.
The court heard he had previously breached non-custodial sentences.
Judge Euan Ambrose handed him a ten-month prison sentence.
He told Burton: “A child should feel safe asleep in bed at night. It was a violation of that and, quite simply, very frightening.”
The judge imposed a ten-year restraining order banning Burton from having contact with the girl.
Philip Warren, prosecuting, said Burton touched the girl and was apologetic afterwards. He told the court the youngster was upset at school, revealed what happened and police were alerted.
Police tracked down Burton and he denied sexual assault but pleaded guilty three weeks before a planned trial.
The court heard the girl had gone from a confident youngster to someone who shunned the limelight and had been angry and depressed.
