Paedophile labelled ‘a predator’ has sentence increased
An 83-year-old child sex “predator” has been jailed for 25 years after a top judge ruled the 18-year sentence he was originally handed was far too soft.
Child rapist Sazzad Miah, from Cambridge, was convicted of a raft of sex offences against children, including four specimen counts of rape.
Miah was jailed for 18 years, with a one-year extended licence period, at Peterborough Crown Court in June.
But Solicitor General Robert Buckland QC deemed that sentence “unduly lenient” and referred the case to London’s Appeal Court.
Lady Justice Rafferty today agreed with him, and increased his prison sentence to 25 years.
