Pervert jailed for breach
A man caught with child sexual abuse images has been jailed after failing to take part in sex offender treatment.
Nigel Rawlings had kept his freedom on a three-year community order when he admitted downloading paedophile images from the internet.
He had to join a probation-run sex offender group work programme as part of that sentence.
But drug addict Rawlings twice failed to attend even the start-up sessions, Newcastle Crown Court heard.
And after the probation service reported that breach, the 25-year-old from Northumberland Avenue, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, was jailed instead for eight months.
Judge Esmond Faulks told him: “When you came before me I told you at the time your offending was on the cusp of custody.
“I was persuaded I could best deal with you by making a community order on condition you attend a sex offender group work programme. You were given that opportunity. You failed to take it.”
Rawlings also had his sex offender registration requirement increased from five to 10 years.
