Thug caged for attack on boy
A thug who viciously assaulted a child and battered a man with a pool cue in separate attacks has been locked up for three years.
Violent Anthony Metcalfe’s own barrister admitted that the attacks were so grave that a jail sentence was inevitable. The child was left with marks to his face and covered in bruises after being hit by 22-year-old Metcalfe.
Teesside Crown Court heard how Metcalfe hit him around the head and body and stamped on his foot, leaving him covered in bruises
He was jailed for two years for assaulting the boy.
Prosecutors told how the youngster was left with a lump to his head and facial marks.
They said he could also barely walk after Metcalfe stood on his foot, which was badly swollen and that his face and body were covered in bruises.
Metcalfe admitted two counts of assault causing actually bodily harm in 2008.
Judge Tony Briggs said: “These are two serious offences against a young child. “The account given was very distressing and must have been upsetting for the child.”
Metcalfe was given another year behind bars for hitting a man over the head with a pool cue in a separate act of violence.
The court heard how Metcalfe, of Devon Street, Hartlepool, took part in a joint affray with a 17-year-old youth in April last year.
The victim was hit over the head with a pool cue by Metcalfe, who admitted affray, and punched in the eye by the teenager, who cannot be identified because of his age. Lawyers for the pair said the victim had been pestering Metcalfe’s sister.
The teenager was given a 12-month community order with supervision after pleading guilty to affray.
