Carlisle man with more than 200 child abuse images arrested at airport on way to the Philippines
A child sexual abuse images pervert was arrested at an airport flight gate as he tried to complete a move to the Philippines.
Details of David Halliburton’s offending over almost seven years were outlined at Carlisle Crown Court.
Prosecutor Beccy McGregor said Halliburton, 59, gave a friend his vehicle as he relocated from his city address to the south east Asian country.
Inside, that friend found a lap top and a computer hard drive which Halliburton said he could also keep
But the pal “stumbled upon” files containing movies.
“He was shocked upon opening one of the videos to find that it contained child pornography,” said Ms McGregor.
So, too, did a second movie, and police were alerted.
“It was on that date that the defendant was due to fly to the Philippines. He was arrested that evening at Manchester Airport, at the flight gate, and prevented from leaving the country,” said Ms McGregor.
Halliburton had a laptop with him which contained child porn. Across three devices, there were 74 images of category A – the most serious – including 71 movies; 112 category B, mostly videos; and 23 category C pictures.
Halliburton admitted making illegal child images between mid-2011 and March this year. He also accessed sexually explicit stories about young children, and one search term referenced the “rape of a boy”.
Halliburton, of Lightfoot Drive, told police he “forgot” the images were there, and denied gaining sexual gratification from them. His intention had been to move to the Philippines indefinitely to live with his partner.
Paul Tweddle, defending, said: “He fully accepts that his actions were legally and morally wrong. He has pleaded guilty.
“He now understands that these are victims; they are young children who have been exploited.”
Recorder Julie Clemitson suspended an eight-month jail term for 18 months, and ordered Halliburton to complete rehabilitation and a four-month night-time curfew.
He must sign the sex offenders’ register, and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order, for 10 years.
