Paedophile jailed for abusing young girl

A paedophile who targeted and abused a young girl has been jailed

James Smyth, 57 years old of Coventry appeared at Warwick Crown Court where he was sentenced in relation to the following offences: 

  • Three counts of sexual assault against a female child under 13

The court was told that depraved Smyth who is known locally as ‘Jimmy’ and who has a Scottish accent targeted the six year old female victim for his own sexual gratification.

Smyth repeatedly molested and sexually assaulted the young girl over a period of 12 months.

The judge handed Smyth two concurrent sentences totalling six years imprisonment.

He was ordered to sign sex offenders register for an indefinite period and a sexual harm prevention order was put in place until further notice.
