Pervert told schoolgirl ‘trust the man who is risking everything for you’
A manipulative pervert who groomed a vulnerable schoolgirl told her to ‘trust the man who is risking everything for you.’
Married man Paul Eccleston, 37, used a campaign of flattery and affection to abuse the teenage victim before she turned 16, when he proceeded to have full sex with her.
The now adult woman was left suffering from depression and a “loss of confidence” following the abuse.
Eccleston, now of Field Lane in Fazakerley , was locked up for five years at Liverpool Crown Court today after being convicted of 10 counts of sexual activity with a child following a trial.
Neil Bisarya, prosecuting, told the court Eccleston preyed on the girl at his then home in Prescot.
He said: “On a couple of occasions it happened when another child was present, who was a baby at the time.”
The jury heard the victim was suffering from low self-esteem, which Eccleston exploited with comments such as “you’re not fat, you’re beautiful.”
The court heard although Eccleston did not rape the girl while she was under-age, he touched her breasts and genitals under her clothing and kissed her on the mouth.
The victim summoned the courage to report the offences despite “pressure” to keep it quiet – after hearing he had made revolting comments to another young girl.
A jury heard Eccleston said: “You’re getting a good shape on you girl, if I was a paedy-weedy…”
The court heard Eccleston had no previous convictions for sexual offences, but had been sent to a young offenders institute for assault as a youth.
Judge Alan Conrad, QC, sentencing, said: “She is taking anti-depressants and has suffered a loss of confidence, that was apparent to me when I saw her give evidence in the trial.
“It is a serious feature of this case that pressure was put on her not to disclose what had happened.”
Eccleston was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
