Child sex pervert given 30 months
A pervert who molested a girl during a nine-year campaign of abuse has been jailed for 30 months.
Pervert William McCallum repeatedly attacked the youngster from when she was aged seven.
The victim did not reveal her ordeal until she was in her twenties.
McCallum, 43, had earlier admitted at Glasgow Sheriff Court to two charges of acting in a lewd and libidinous manner.
As he returned for sentence, Sheriff Alistair Noble told him prison was the only option, adding: “This was extensive abuse over a considerable period.”
McCallum first pounced at the girl’s family home in Castlemilk, Glasgow, in 1982 after returning from working in Milton Keynes.
The court then heard that the abuse then “escalated” and continued when she moved house.
The court heard the pervert repeatedly made her perform sex acts on him.
McCallum also preyed on the girl when he joined her and her family on an Ibizan holiday in the 80s.
The abuse ended in 1991 when the victim was 16. She told her husband-to-be years later, before telling her parents in 2001.
Her fiance confronted McCallum, of Allison Street, Govanhill, Glasgow and he admitted the acts. The victim then told the police last year.
McCallum was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
Man admits sexually abusing girl
A man has admitted sexually abusing a girl in Glasgow for almost a decade.
William McCallum, 43, from Allison Street, Govanhill, began molesting the girl when she was seven.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the abuse only came to light when the victim was in her 20s and she told her fiancé in the run-up to their wedding.
McCallum admitted two charges of acting in a lewd and libidinous manner. He was given bail and sentencing was deferred until next month for reports.
The court heard how McCallum made his first contact with the girl while visiting her Glasgow home in 1982 and made her perform sexual acts on him.
Catriona Dow, prosecuting, said the abuse “escalated” and continued when the youngster moved house.
The assaults also continued when he joined his victim on a family holiday to Ibiza.
“On about four occasions during the two week holiday, the accused took her to quiet places and assaulted her,” Ms Dow said.
The abuse ended in early 1991 when the victim was 16.
The court heard how the woman only told her husband-to-be years later, before telling her parents in 2001.
Her boyfriend confronted McCallum and he admitted what he had done.
However, the victim did not go to the police until last year.
She had believed McCallum had been placed on the sex offenders list by his doctor but later discovered that only the courts could do that and she eventually reported the matter.
