Pervert who groomed and seduced girl, 13, fails with sentence challenge

A man who groomed and seduced a vulnerable schoolgirl can have no complaints about his tough sentence, senior judges have ruled.

Antony William Bailey, 22, was jailed for seven years nine months at Stafford Crown Court last December after admitting a series of sex crimes.

Bailey met his 13-year-old victim online, luring her back to his flat where he plied her with vodka and coaxed her into his bed.

They met for sex several times afterwards and, although the girl was a willing participant, she was young and vulnerable.

Bailey, of Heenan Grove, Stafford, also took an indecent snap of the girl, and groped her while she was asleep.

He admitted charges of sexual activity with a child, inciting a child into pornography and assault by penetration.

Bailey challenged his sentence today, claiming it was far too harsh in light of his youth and guilty pleas.

But Lord Justice Holroyde, sitting with two other judges, said his punishment was ‘not manifestly excessive’.

He noted that Bailey had never been to prison before, but also highlighted the victim’s vulnerability.

“This sentence reflected the seriousness of having full sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old child,” said the judge.

He concluded: “These were serious offences repeated over a significant period of time. The total sentence was not manifestly excessive.”
