Cyber perv meeting teen for ‘sexy fun’ runs into paedophile hunting group instead

A pervert went to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl for ‘sexy fun’ only to be snared by paedophile-hunters.

Eric Savage, 65, had arranged a rendezvous with the supposed teen who he got in contact with through an internet chat room.

In reality the ‘girl’ was a grown woman and member of the Hunting 4 Justice group, who set up a bogus profile using a picture of her sister when she was 13 or 14, with her permission.

Unsuspecting Savage, of Caernarvon Close, Castlefields, Runcorn, said he was ‘looking for chat, friends and liked to have fun’ but his conversation quickly turned to the prospect of sexual activity, prosecutor Peter Hussey told Chester Crown Court on Friday.

Savage said that if ‘sexy fun was on offer, he’d be interested’.

Some time into the exchange he said: “I wish I’d be in bed with someone later” then detailed two sexual acts he would like to take place including groping.

Savage told the “child” he had done similar things in the past and evaded discovery, and that nothing would happen as long as ‘it was her secret’.

The exchange began at around 1pm on Wednesday, March 28, and he arranged to meet the supposed girl at Runcorn Station later that night.

When he arrived at some point between 9.30pm and 10pm, three members of Hunting 4 Justice confronted him and kept him there for the police.

Savage denied a charge of inciting a child into sexual activity but later pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following grooming.

The court heard he was remanded into custody rather than given bail for his own safety after the paedophile-hunters live streamed the moment they confronted him on Facebook.

Savage had also been in contact with another member of the group posing as a young teenage girl just days earlier.

Savage had been in two marriages, he said, the first of which ended after he caught his wife in bed with another man, and the second which ceased on amicable terms after having had four children together.

Judge Simon Berkson sentenced Savage to 15 months behind bars, minus time served on remand. He made Savage subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed him on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
